Don't underestimate the importance of making the wedding proposal totally epic and memorable. This one event marks the beginning of the story of your married life and will be retold over and over for the rest of your life. This is an event you don't want to mess up because you will never, ever hear the end of it. It has to be special and perfect.

Ideally when your future wife tells the story of your proposal it should elicit envy and dreamy signs amongst her family and girlfriends. It doesn't have to be expensive. Some of the most romantic gestures didn't cost a cent. Here are some ideas that she will be sure to adore.

Make sure there is at least 1 item used during the proposal, apart from the ring, that she can keep as a memento of the "marry me" moment. The following are easy to arrange.

Document the Moment She's Been Waiting For

Hire a photographer or videographer to capture the moment. To eliminate suspicion there are several sneaky ways to keep her in the dark. You tell your girlfriend you booked a photo shoot or better still get a family member or friend to gift it to her. This will totally throw her off any suspicions, especially if it's out of character for you to book a photo session. If she is aware of a photographer being there it's ideal, because she will be dressed up with hair and make-up done and wearing her favorite clothes. Or the photographer or videographer can hide and document it all as you propose, but this is a little more difficult logistically. If you do it this way make sure the photographer is very experienced in capturing proposals.

Give Her a Sign

Make a sign with words like, "She Said Yes", or "He Asked and I Said Yes." Slip it to someone on the scene and use it for a photo prop afterwards. Even if you don't hire a photographer there probably will be someone around to snap a few photos to document the big news.

Be Poetic

Frame a love poem to give her afterwards when you have both stopped jumping up and down. This lovely gesture doesn't cost anything but is so romantic and meaningful.

If you want to blow some cash when you pop the question there are many ways to do it. Go for a scenic helicopter ride, charter a yacht at sunset or hire a professional musician to serenade her with a favorite love song in a beautiful place. Plan a treasure hunt with lovey dovey clues as you go along. The treasure is obviously the ring. Even though there's a high chance she will realize the proposal is coming at the end, you can playfully deny it.

Ask friends and family to help with the planning if you believe they can keep the secret under wraps, or hire a professional proposal planner to help you execute your ideas with style and grace. It's worth the investment to make sure everything goes smoothly and to plan for the love of your life.

Use your imagination and romantic creativity when you execute your marriage proposal. Even if you are not naturally romantic, it's fine. Everyone has a little romance inside them and if you ever use it, this really is the time. Going out for a nice dinner and asking over the course of Corden Bleu is not unique and has been done a million times before. Do something unexpected and sweet that she will remember vividly when you are both a couple of oldies recalling memories in your rocking chairs.
